Mount Stanley is the third highest mountain in Africa. This 8-Day Rwenzori Tour climbs through the southern circuit with forests, valleys, birds, and primates. The trek starts at Trekkers Hostel at 1,450m and passes Sine Hut, Mutinda Camp, Bugata Camp, Hunwick’s Camp, and Margherita Camp. Hikers walk through Afro Montane forest, bamboo zone, and high valleys with lobelia plants and waterfalls. The climb to Cheptegei Peak (4,907m) crosses the Stanley glacier and is non-technical. From the summit you see Alexandra Peak, Margherita Peak, Mt Speke, and the Stanley glaciers. The trek then descends through the Nyamwamba Valley to Kiharo Camp and finally returns to Base Camp.

• Start the trek at Trekkers Hostel at 1,450 meters and hike through the southern circuit of the Rwenzori Mountains.

• Walk through Afro Montane forest with tall trees, birds, primates, and chances to see blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and chimpanzee nests.

• Visit Enock’s Falls near Sine Hut and enjoy views of waterfalls and forest valleys.

• Climb through the bamboo zone and reach Mutinda Camp with an optional hike to Mutinda Lookout at about 3,975 meters.

• Cross the Mutinda Valley with tussock grass and giant lobelia plants on the way to Bugata Camp.

• Pass Bamwanjarra Pass at about 4,450 meters with views of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, and nearby peaks.

• Visit Lake Kitandara and climb Scott Elliott’s Pass to Margherita Camp.

• Cross the Stanley glacier and summit Cheptegei Peak at 4,907 meters.

• See wide views of Alexandra Peak, Mount Speke, Bujuku Valley, and parts of Congo.

• Optional climb to Weismann’s Peak at about 4,620 meters.

• Descend through the Nyamwamba Valley with waterfalls, moss covered rocks, and forest.

• See wildlife such as duikers along the river before finishing the trek at Trekkers Hostel.
