The trek begins at Trekkers Hostel in Kyanjuki, 12 kilometers from Kasese town past the Kilembe copper mines. It is best to start by 8:30am, but you may leave as late as 10am. You will meet your guides, receive a briefing, and then walk 2.2km to the UWA ranger post at 1,727 meters.
Day 1: Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)
Day 2: Hike to Mutinda Camp (3,588m)
Day 3: Hike to Bugata Camp (4,100m)
Day 4: Hike to Hunwick’s Camp (3,974m)
Day 5: Summit Weismann’s Peak or Visit Kitandara Valley
Day 6: Descend to Base Camp
Start the trek at Trekkers Camp at 1,450 meters and hike through the Afro Montane Forest to Sine Hut at 2,596 meters.
Walk through tall forest with many birds and chances to see blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and sometimes L’Hoest monkeys or hear chimpanzees in the distance.
Visit Enock’s Falls near Sine Camp and enjoy views of waterfalls surrounded by thick forest.
Pass through different vegetation zones including Afro Montane forest, bamboo forest, and the Heather Rapanea zone.
Hike through valleys with giant heather trees, moss covered rocks, and hanging lichens along mountain streams.
Climb to Mutinda Lookout at about 3,975 meters for wide views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Kasese town, and Lake George.
Cross the Mutinda Valley with tussock grass, giant lobelia plants, and alpine flowers on the way to Bugata Camp at about 4,100 meters.
Hike through Bamwanjarra Pass with views of snow capped peaks in the Rwenzori Mountains.
See rare alpine plants such as giant groundsel and giant lobelia in high mountain valleys.
Spot birds such as the Malachite Sunbird feeding on lobelia flowers.
Reach Hunwick’s Camp with views of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, and surrounding peaks.
Climb to Oliver’s Pass at about 4,505 meters with views of the main Rwenzori peaks.
Optional hike to Weismann’s Peak at 4,620 meters for views of Mount Stanley, Mount Speke, and Mount Baker.
Descend through the Nyamwamba Valley with views of waterfalls, rivers, moss covered rocks, and deep valleys.
See wildlife such as Rwenzori red duiker along the river valleys.
Stop at Forest View Camp for lunch before finishing the trek at the base camp.
