About your trip

The trek starts at Trekkers Hostel Kyanjuki, 12 kilometers from Kasese town, past Kilembe copper mines. It is best to start by 8:30am but you can leave as late as 10am. You meet your guides for a briefing, then walk 2.2km to the UWA ranger post at 1,727m.

5-Day Rwenzori Tour Highlights

  • Day 1: Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)

  • Day 2: Hike to Mutinda Camp (3,588m)

  • Day 3: Hike to Kiharo Camp (3,460m)

  • Day 4: Descend to Basecamp (1,450m)

Why this tour?

  • Start the trek at Trekkers Camp at 1,450 meters and hike through the Afro Montane Forest to Sine Hut at 2,596 meters.

  • Walk through tall forest with many birds and chances to see blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and sometimes L’Hoest monkeys or hear chimpanzees in the distance.

  • Visit Enock’s Falls near Sine Hut and enjoy views of waterfalls surrounded by thick forest.

  • Pass through different vegetation zones including Afro Montane forest, bamboo forest, and the Heather Rapanea zone.

  • Hike to Kalalama Camp and follow trails along ridges, small streams, and moss covered waterfalls.

  • Walk through valleys with giant heather trees, hanging lichens, and many alpine plants.

  • Climb to Mutinda Lookout at about 3,975 meters for wide views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Kasese town, and Lake George.

  • Cross boggy valleys with tussock grass, giant lobelia plants, and alpine flowers on the way to Bugata Camp at 4,062 meters.

  • Enjoy views of Bugata Lake, Lake Kopello, Lake Africa, and surrounding mountain peaks.

  • Optional hike to Weismann’s Peak at 4,620 meters with views of Mount Stanley, Mount Speke, and Mount Baker.

  • Descend through the Nyamwamba Valley with views of rocky peaks, giant groundsel plants, and alpine vegetation.

  • Stay at Kiharo Camp surrounded by streams and forest with chances to hear rock hyrax at night.

  • Walk down the Nyamwamba Valley with views of rivers, moss covered rocks, waterfalls, and deep valleys.

  • See red forest duikers and other wildlife along the trail.

  • Stop at Forest View Camp before finishing the trek at the base camp.
