The trek starts at Trekkers Hostel Kyanjuki, about 12 km from Kasese town near Kilembe copper mines. The walk usually begins at 8:30am after meeting guides and receiving a briefing. You then hike 2.2 km to the UWA ranger post at 1,727 meters. The trail passes through montane forest with tall trees, birds, and primates. The path climbs steadily along the Nyamwamba River and crosses small streams. Hikers may see bush pigs, blue monkeys, and black and white colobus monkeys. Sometimes chimpanzees can be heard in the forest and their nests seen in the trees. The forest scenery, plants, and wildlife make this Rwenzori trek very interesting and rewarding.
